No, not the United States of America, the other one, the little islands just 10 miles south from Newfoundland. You remember us? Saint-Pierre and Miquelon?
We’re so sorry your relationship with the USA has soured so much. We feel for you when you get bullied and pushed around, threatened with invasion, tariffs, economic retaliation. We understand how hard it can be when your former best friend betrays you so deeply. We get it when you start questioning yourself, when you ponder your own existence in this hemisphere.
We understand how the actions of one government can completely destabilize your economy. We get it when you rally the flag and yell “elbows up”, solidarity is important at times like that. We get it when you boycott travelling to the USA and decide to spend your hard-earned money at home. We get it, we really do.
Why you ask?
You mean you forgot about the 1992 border decision?
You mean you don’t remember jailing all our politicians on April 15th, 1988?
I could understand not remembering the invasion plans you put together in 1941, but how could you forget how we had to shut down our entire fishing industry and sell off our fishing fleet?
